Written for readers who have finished Book 1.
Chloe Sutton is Arthur's granddaughter, Martin's eldest: twenty, quick, warm and entirely without side. She works in London on the people side of the new national rollout, helping anyone who is stuck and frightened get the system to work for them, and by her own cheerful account she is the best on her floor. She will stay forty minutes past her break for an old lady whose pension will not come through. She texts her grandad in capitals and kisses, takes two trains to give him an afternoon, and always brings him something. She has her grandmother's warmth exactly. When she hears that Grandad's church is joining the rollout, she is so proud of him she squeals at her desk.
