Martin Sutton

Martin Sutton is Arthur and Sylvia's son, around forty, and a civil servant in Whitehall. He is married with three children: Chloe, the eldest, is twenty and working in London, and the younger two are still at home. Clever, busy and kind in a practical way, Martin is the first in the queue for anything sensible. He gets the forms in early, keeps the family's affairs in order, and is never any trouble to anybody. He set the little sound on his father's phone that tells Arthur a text is from Chloe. When Arthur rings him out of the blue on a Sunday evening, there is a small quick worry in his voice before he hears that everything is all right.
